How Does Life Coaching Work?
Throughout our lives, we can find ourselves lacking direction and unsure of how to get ahead. Our relationships might fall apart and our health can suffer. Having a session with a Life Coach can help you get clear on what's preventing you from enjoying life more fully

I can help…
What is life coaching and why do I need it?
In a nutshell, life coaching is a way to get back on track and it can assist with a broad range of problems. We all have a life and we're all different, but what we have in common are thoughts, habits and behaviours that either hinder or help us and both affect our life.
In my life coaching practice I work with thought patterns because I believe they are what's at the heart of every issue, whether that's how to lose weight, build better relationships, create job satisfaction, increase confidence or reduce stress.
My head is going around in circles, can you help?
Absolutely. Problems don't go away on their own and procrastination or feeling stuck are signs that you need to get those thoughts out of your head. The old saying 'A problem shared is a problem halved' is cliché but true. Studies show that opening up about our difficulties is an effective way to clear the mind and regain focus.
Know this: life coaching is not the same as therapy. Coaching is dynamic and suitable for identifying problem behaviours that can be reframed and changed. A therapist can diagnose a specific issue such as anxiety or depression and work on where and how the problems arose. Life coaching will always take a 'how can we move forward from here' mindset.
I've tried every diet but I'm still not losing weight
For some, their lifelong struggle is weight-loss, for others, it's money or intimacy issues. As a Life Coach, your problem is less significant to me than your internal dialogue. Any of the above examples could lead back to a core belief of 'I'm not good enough'. They could equally be built on a fear of success, or failure.
Some clients struggle with wanting to change jobs but don't know what they want to do next. One teenage client was unsure about whether to go to uni or take a gap year. A motivated writer I worked with wanted a pay rise but didn't know how to ask. I've also coached people who are emotional eaters and want to create healthier habits.
In all cases I listen to the patterns – are you lacking something else such as a fulfilling social life, or is your work draining all your energy leaving you listless and seeking stimulation from coffee, Netflix or junk food?
I believe we're all smart and highly capable at living our lives. The only thing that gets in the way is repeating old habits and not knowing how to clear them. No amount of motivation will work if you are unconsciously sabotaging your own best efforts. As a Life Coach, I help you uncover those hidden aspects so you can free yourself from old patterns and start thinking more clearly again.
I have money issues so I can't afford life coaching
Money, money, money … tell me about it. I rode the money rollercoaster for most of my life and only recently broke through the final limiting belief that has opened me up to true abundance. Something shifted and it feels easy. But it took a lot of work. Debts are real and yes, life coaching is an investment. The good news is there are lots of life coaches and each one has a different price range and different skills set.
One thing to keep in mind is that good life coaching is LIFE CHANGING and what price can you really put on finally being able to hit those out-of-reach sales targets or finding the courage to leave your going-nowhere relationship and ask that gorgeous barista on a date?
Believe me, a $250 investment can be the difference between wanting to hide from those monthly meetings (because you're terrified of speaking up) and walking tall into a room full of strangers with your latest presentation on How To Manage Anxiety. If you can tune in to the courageous part of yourself that TRULY believes you can be successful, spending money becomes secondary to what's actually possible.
But I get it. Money can be a stumbling point and it is for many of us.
If money is your block I recommend reading It's Not Your Money by Tosha Silver and Sacred Economics by Charles Eisenstein. Two very different books. The first is an easy read with a How To slant, the second is a high-level investment of your time and energy but will ultimately shift you to breakthrough many old beliefs, including outdated money stories. They're available as audio books and I highly recommend both.
I want to change but I don't feel ready…
Saying yes before you feel 100% ready is actually a signal to your Soul that you're prepared to upgrade your life. If you've been thinking about the same problems for over a year and still haven't reached any new conclusions then listen to those messages – they're your inner compass searching for more light.
I want to change but I don't know how
Firstly, if you want to change then give yourself a HUGE pat on the back because many people don't. Comfort zones are thus called because, well, they're comfy! Change on the other hand is challenging and in my opinion, anyone who wants to change deserves a medal.
But, desire isn't enough. You need to know HOW to change. And that's the freakin' problem, right?
If you're like most of my clients, you have a tonne of motivation, you're highly capable, you're bright, good at what you do, and you're pretty darn switched on. And that's partly why you're completely baffled as to why things aren't working out for you.
Enter… life coaching.
Friends and family have our best interests at heart, but as you know, sharing your deepest desires with the people in your life doesn't really help. Why? Because they're not trained to understand the mind. They might be super-supportive and always there for you when things go wrong, but they don't have the ability to recognise subconscious patterning that is at the core of why you can't seem to stop drinking that third glass of wine when you've said you're going to give up at least 100 times.
And they'll be far from able to notice the layers of self-judgement you've been adding to any of your internal dialogue, because, well, it's not their job.
We think we know ourselves but the truth is, we don't. And we don't need to, until there's a problem.
Sharing our innermost issues is delicate and we often stop ourselves from dreaming big because people around us tell us not to get our hopes up incase we don't succeed and we end up feeling disappointed. But the bigger piece in all that is that most people can't handle it when OTHER PEOPLE are disappointed (or angry, or hurt, or sad). We think we're being kind by telling people to dial down their dreams but we're actually avoiding the risk of having to feel our own pain when/if things fall flat.
As a Life Coach, I promise you I can handle it. I 100% guarantee that whatever struggles you're facing I will listen deeply*. I'm trained in understanding habits and thought patterns and I've been obsessed with human behaviour since I was 3 years old.
I've also had my fair share of difficulties: I survived a fatal car accident aged 18, almost became homeless and had to sleep in my car because I couldn't make my rent, I've experienced sudden redundancy, felt suicidal and had work conflicts that nearly broke me.
You'll have your own set of stories just as I have mine. The past isn't what matters to me but I recognise how it has led us to where we are today. What I focus on is the part of you that's desperate to awaken. I believe the only thing in the way of you feeling full of life when you wake up are the layers of life that have been placed over your precious heart.
Getting the job you want, changing your eating habits, finally being able to sleep the whole night without your head being full of negative thoughts is possible. But you can't do it on your own. And you shouldn't have to.
I'm here for you.

Coaching with Hannah is a mind-expanding experience. I might start the session from a narrow, restricted, dysfunctional place but Hannah deftly, and ever so gently, steers me towards new perspectives on my problems, opening up my mind so that by the end of the hour my world is a much bigger, more functional place of possibility and positivity with plans in place to achieve my needs. Highly recommended.
